Organisms: I noticed a lot less birds today in the woods. I didn't hear much of their singing, except for a couple of times. I did notice, however, that there were a lot of crickets, water bugs in the pond, and I also noticed some animal prints in the mud near the water. While walking around the pond, I also noticed a few squirrels together.
Research Question: Things have changed a lot since September 11. This time it was raining for the majority of the time I was out there. A lot of leaves had fallen, and I had noticed that there was a lot more color as well. The green really stood out to me today, because there wasn't much of it. Also, the leaves had changed color and fallen more as I got closer to the pond. It was the opposite of what I had observed last time. Most of the Sassafras trees had completely changed color as I got farther from the water, but the ones closer to the pond had a lot of green still left on them. I also noticed this time that the larger Sassafras by the water had some sort of disease with many black spots on its leaves. I set my tarps underneath the trees again at about 20 and 30 meters from the pond. The tree 20 yards away lost about 6 leaves an hour. The tree 30 yards away lost only 4. This was the opposite of what I observed last time with the coloration and the opposite of what I had guessed in my hypothesis.
